Sins of My Brothers
“Sins of My Brothers” is a harrowing true story; a gritty account of the historic events of April 1865, where a confluence of disastrous decisions fueled by greed, corruption and incompetence resulted in heartbreaking consequences that forever changed a nation struggling to stay united.
After surviving a bloody civil war and the atrocities of confinement at Georgia’s infamous Andersonville, its former prisoners of war were eager to finally go home. To accomplish this, they were herded like livestock and grossly overloaded aboard the government-chartered Mississippi paddle wheel boat Sultana. For the sake of expedience not compassion, cash-strapped Sultana Captain James Cass Mason chose profits over safety, accepting a bribe from corrupt Union Colonel Reuben Hatch. Mason then selfishly and coldheartedly crammed his human cargo of more than 2,000 souls onto a vessel built to carry fewer than 400. But in the end, their ride to home and safety explosively ends in the unforgiving cold chaos and darkness of night just a few miles north of Memphis - as all aboard, passengers and crew alike, found themselves facing flames, drowning and hypothermia in a desperate struggle to survive the worst maritime disaster in U.S. history.
Meanwhile, vainglorious John Wilkes Booth has plans of his own to balance the scales of political power. Aided by a shadow conspiracy and pushed to the limits of sanity, he commits the most heinous crime of the century, assassinating President Abraham Lincoln, dividing the Union further still. The nation’s largest manhunt tracks Booth and his accomplice David Herold as they attempt to flee their pursuers and avoid the hangman’s noose. We know of course how that worked out, but we know very little about the crucial elements of the back story that were foundational to how everything played out during this most historical time frame.
Questions remain: Do we really know the crucial details of the lives of the people who were closest to this nightmare? Have we fully examined their personalities, their motives for their actions? Do we really know what was happening in the background while all this history was being made? Perhaps not, but we believe “Sins of My Brothers” will help fill in many of those important blanks. We are compelled to dig deeper to find answers. So, grab your shovel, because dig we must. Read on, dear reader.
